The kunst:raum sylt quelle has awarded a literature-grant annually to a writer in German since 2001. This award, the Sylt-Quelle Inselschreiber, the island writer, comprises of a one time payment of € 2,500.00, a two month stay in one of the modern, fully equipped artists’ apartments, as well as a two to four week stay abroad in co-operation with international writer’s associations to promote dialogue und networking.
The island writer should split his/her stay on the island into a summer and a winter month so as to get to know different facets of the island’s character. He/she is required to keep an online island diary – an island blog – and be prepared to hold at least two readings which are open to the public. Apart from this, the island writer is free use the year, and the months on the island, as best suits his/her creativity.
